What a ride it has been.

I was initially hesitant at signing up for group tutoring as I thought one-on-one would work best but actually I think this has worked even better. Instead of feeling like they are somehow faulty or the odd one out, I now think that working in a group helps children to feel normal and included – like they’re not the only one and there’s nothing wrong with them. They can see lots of other children working on improving their writing together. I feel that’s really encouraging and supports their self-esteem and motivation to keep going. Reading other’s writing pieces has also acted as inspiration and further idea development.

The great structure you provide as a foundation for each piece has been extremely useful, constructive and a real blessing.

From him hardly writing anything or not knowing where to start, your guiding structure has enabled him to really get going and discover how much he enjoys writing. We also got to discover how good he is at it!

The extensive written notes and general information you give plus regular individual feedback both live in the class and in marking of individual pieces has helped him to develop his own skills and also observe his own growth over this past year.

We really look forward to reading his writing now! From what was a struggle for years (and can still be a bit sometimes) it has now become joyful.

He even got offered a place at his first choice of selective high school!

Hi Amber, I wanted to pass on some positive feedback. Matilda has previously struggled to write essays and structured pieces of writing for English or history. This week she had to write a reflection on a Shakespeare project as part of the assignment. What would normally involve procrastination, multiple edits and efforts to sit down and write – was instead a fluid, confident, well-articulated session of writing and output. She read me her work (which took her a fraction of the time it would previously have taken), and it was well-written and comprehensive. It required very little edits if any. I share this because afterwards she said to me – “I wouldn’t have been able to do this before doing Amber’s course mum, it’s really been so good.” I smiled and told her how pleased I was with her effort! My son, Leon, is a gifted mathematician and chess player and was chosen to participate in a class for gifted learners in Year 3. Leon was in his element in this class and excelled in math, but without the appropriate guidance, his interest in writing suffered, and so did the quality of his work. By the end of Year 3, we were told that Leon’s writing was well below the required standard for the accelerated class, and as a result, he was dropped from this class in Year 4. Leon was shattered. I was in despair a few years ago when I found out that my son had scored a ‘below national average’ in writing for his Year 3 NAPLAN. For the next year or so, I did nothing, and then a friend suggested Clever Fox Education and I signed him up. I was initially sceptical… how could a Zoom class of 15 students be effective?
