2. How to plan, write and edit persuasive texts in the time allowed (20-30 minutes for scholarship/selective high school test)
3. How to structure paragraphs using the TEEL/PEEL/PETAL method
4. How to elaborate on points and to back each point up with evidence and examples
5. How to effectively use an array of persuasive devices, adjectives, adverbs, as well as accurate punctuation, grammer and spelling.
6. How to transfer the structure and skills used in the most widely assessed writing genres – persuasive and narrative texts – to create hybrid texts such as descriptions, newspaper articles, diary entries, advice sheets, letters and emails.


Modelled examples

  • In every lesson, we provide students with a modelled plan, a modelled exemplary text, recommended high-scoring vocabulary words from the NAPLAN Markers Guide as well as a comprehensive list of figurative language. All of the above allows students to see what high-scoring texts look like.

The intensive poetry comprehension course for Years 5-8 is designed to help students acquire and apply the skills needed to analyse, interpret, and evaluate poetry.

1. Preview the Poem

  • Read the title and predict what the poem is about.
  • Identify the poet.
